About us
In 2015, a shared vision took root — to address the unique healthcare needs of the ageing population in West Bengal and to create a strong professional platform for advancing geriatric medicine. Guided by this mission, a group of committed medical professionals came together to form the West Bengal Branch of the Geriatric Society of India (WBGSI).
Our founding members — Dr. H.S. Pathak, Dr. R.N. Maiti, Dr. Kaushik Ranjan Das, Dr. Kausik Majumdar, Dr. Tarun Kumar Das, Dr. Krishnanjan Chakraborty, Dr. Mainak Gupta, and Dr. Soumi Chakraborty — laid the cornerstone of the branch with dedication, vision, and teamwork.
Today, WBGSI is committed to improving the quality of life for older adults across the state. As part of the national Geriatric Society of India, we serve as a hub for professionals, caregivers, and community members passionate about geriatric care and healthy ageing.
Our initiatives include Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes, training workshops, research collaborations, public awareness campaigns, and policy advocacy. These activities address not just the medical needs of seniors, but also their emotional well-being, social inclusion, and legal rights.
We work closely with healthcare providers, government agencies, academic institutions, and non-profits to foster a society that values and supports its elderly. Our diverse membership — geriatricians, general practitioners, nurses, physiotherapists, psychologists, lawyers, social workers, and volunteers — reflects the interdisciplinary approach needed for comprehensive elder care.
At WBGSI, we believe ageing is a journey to be embraced. Through compassion, expertise, and community action, we strive to ensure that every senior citizen in West Bengal can live with dignity, independence, and joy.
